JOHNSON’S IMPEACHMENT

He

They

It required the Senate
to
approve the removal
of

Johnson removed

who staunchly supported

When the Senate held
the
impeachment trial
they
supported Johnson’s
right
to remove
a
cabinet member.
They
also acknowledged
the dangerous precedent set
by
removing a President
who
disagreed with
the
majority of Congress.
The impeachment failed
by
one vote.
